During FY 2006, the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA):
- Matched volunteers to children in 68 of Iowa's 99 counties. In FY 2002, the year before operation was assumed by the Child Advocacy Board, CASA was only available to children in a 30-county area.
- Served a record 1,378 children. This is up by 40% over FY 2002, the year before operation was assumed by the Child Advocacy Board.
- Contributed a total of 33,697 hours and 228,779 miles in the performance of their duties. The total contribution of CASA volunteers in hours and miles for FY '06 is valued at over $1,769,000.
- Recently the Judges in each of the counties where CASA programming is operating were surveyed about their view of the CASA program, and the CASA volunteers who have appeared before them. The results of the Judge's survey revealed the following:
When asked to respond to the statement that CASAs "make a positive impact on the outcome of the child's case", 27% agreed, 68% strongly agreed, and 5% very strongly agreed. No judges disagreed (or strongly disagreed) with the statement.
When asked to respond to the statement that CASAs "make appropriate recommendations", 36% agreed and 64% strongly agreed. No judges disagreed (or strongly disagreed) with the statement.
When asked to respond to the statement that CASAs "provide information that you do not get from anyone else", 36% agreed and 64% strongly agreed. No judges disagreed (or strongly disagreed) with the statement.
When asked to respond to the statement "I am satisfied with the effectiveness of the CASA/GAL Program in my county", 18% agreed and 82% strongly agreed. No judges disagreed (or strongly disagreed) with the statement.
